State Leaders Speak at San Diego Reception to Support K to College

Special guests at 2015 San Diego Reception

This fall, K to College is partnering with hundreds of school districts throughout California to distribute school supply kits, dental hygiene kits and other materials to homeless children and youth. With the backdrop of countless pallets of materials staged for the following day’s volunteers, this reception was an opportunity to thank K to College’s sponsors and raise awareness of K to College’s goal–to build a statewide supply bank (like a food bank, but materials) that can meet the basic material needs of our state’s 297,000 homeless kids and other low-income children and youth where possible.

The San Diego Reception was a celebration of this effort and a kickoff of the following day’s assembly event, where five hundred volunteers assembled more than 10,000 school supply and dental hygiene kits. Special guests included Speaker of the California State Assembly Toni Atkins, Assemblymember Dr. Shirley Weber, County Superintendent Dr. Randolph E. Ward, San Diego Unified School District Superintendent Cindy Marten, and Give Something Back Office Supplies Founder & President Mike Hannigan.
